1926 - A Dream Takes Shape

Mohamed ElBattat Workshop | First Generation

In 1926, as the world rebuilt after the First World War and Egypt entered a new era of economic and industrial development, Mohamed ElBattat established a modest workshop in Damanhour. Built on craftsmanship, hard work, and the belief that a man's word was his bond, the workshop earned its reputation one project at a time. Serving the needs of a rapidly developing agricultural economy, the workshop specialized in the fabrication of steel bridges, pipelines, gates, and traditional irrigation equipment, including water wheels (saqiyas). What began as a small workshop in Damanhour would become the foundation of a family legacy spanning four generations and nearly a century of engineering excellence.

1954 - Building Alongside a Nation

Engineering Projects Company (Saad ElBattat & Partners) | Second Generation

Following the 1952 Revolution and under the leadership of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt embarked on a period of rapid industrialization and nation-building. Sensing the opportunities of a changing country, Saad ElBattat established Engineering Projects Company in 1954. A builder by nature and an innovator at heart, he introduced welding into the company's fabrication operations at a time when riveted steel construction was still the norm. He expanded into cast iron foundry works, developed and improved irrigation gate designs, including the widely used Fahmy Henein gates, and grew the business into building construction, steel structures, and irrigation infrastructure. He also established a fleet of trucks that supported both the company's operations and other businesses across the region. Under his leadership, the company grew from a local workshop into a respected engineering company known for solving practical challenges with ingenuity, craftsmanship, and determination.

1987 | Carrying the Legacy Forward

Successors of Saad ElBattat Company | Third Generation

The third generation inherited more than a business. They inherited a name, a reputation, and a responsibility. Through changing markets and economic challenges, they remained committed to the values that had defined the company for decades. Their role was not only to grow the business, but to protect the legacy.

2003 | A New Era of Engineering

Mechanical Engineering & Trading Company (METRACO) | Third Generation

As Egypt entered the twenty-first century, Assem ElBattat and Ihab ElHabrouk established METRACO, transforming generations of engineering experience into a modern engineering and manufacturing company. Building on decades of expertise in steel fabrication and infrastructure, the company expanded into water and wastewater projects, potable water transmission systems, pumping stations, large-diameter pipelines, intake structures, steel bridges, industrial steel structures, roof trusses, and specialized hydraulic steelworks. METRACO also developed capabilities in

automated gates, radial gates, penstocks, stop logs, screens, marine structures, and fixed and movable bridges, serving some of Egypt's most critical infrastructure projects. With a growing focus on engineering excellence, quality, and execution, METRACO positioned itself as a trusted partner for complex industrial, water, and infrastructure solutions across Egypt.

2024 | The Fourth Generation

Bassem ElBattat & Amr ElBattat Appointed Co-CEOs

Nearly a century after the journey began, the fourth generation stepped forward. Bassem ElBattat and Amr ElBattat assumed leadership with a vision to preserve the values that built the company while accelerating its transformation into a technology-driven industrial organization. With a strong focus on automation, innovation, and local engineering excellence, they began investing in digital transformation, advanced manufacturing, and the development of

proprietary technologies designed and built in Egypt. This new chapter marked a shift from delivering engineered products to creating engineered solutions.

Among the first milestones of this transformation was the development of INTAKTIV®, an automated weed screen cleaning machine designed to modernize intake operations and reduce manual intervention in critical water infrastructure facilities. The project reflects a broader ambition: to develop locally engineered technologies capable of solving regional challengeswhile reducing dependence on imported solutions.

2026 | Building the Next Century

ELBATTAT Holding

As the company approaches its centennial milestone, ELBATTAT Holding marks the beginning of a new chapter. Bringing together nearly one hundred years of engineering heritage, the organization is positioned to expand its impact across Egypt and the MENA region while remaining true to the principles that have guided it since 1926.
